Why I Love Madsen’s Bowling and Billiards
4700 Dudley Street, Lincoln NE
Madsen’s in Lincoln has so much to offer for both youth and adults. My family and I mostly go here for the bowling. During the daytime hours, it does not get very busy and they offer great deals for bowling. They offer lightweight bowling balls and bumper rails for children who need it. You can order food and drinks, or they have vending machines. There are twelve bowling lanes total and plenty of seating. If you do not own a pair of bowling shoes, they do have shoe rentals, but make sure you have socks, or they won’t be able to rent the shoes to you for health reasons. After 9:00 pm they start the cosmic bowling, which is when they turn down the lights and turn on the black lights and turn up the music. There is a music box you can pay to have your own songs play. Madsen’s is known for it’s bowling leagues, so during bowling league season (as I call it) you might want to call ahead and make sure there is open bowl at the time you plan on coming in. If you are going to Madsen’s to bowl you should also know that you do have to pay for your games before you play.
At Madsen’s, they have two areas of pool tables. There are several pool tables located in the bar and lounge area that are mostly used for pool leagues and tournaments or open pool if you are 21 years of age or older. The other area is located at the front of the building by the bowling alley and is open pool for any age group. In each area, there are more than plenty of pool tables. The pool tables in the tournament area are rented by the hour or in the lounge they are one dollar a game. If you are like me, a not so good pool player, Madsen’s offers training lessons to help improve your skills. I once talked to the owner, Tom Madsen, and he told me that he has personally trained several people who then became exceptional players. He was full of knowledge about the game, technique as well as the equipment used in the game. They have a showcase full of pool sticks, ques, carrying cases and more for sale if you decide to pick up the game and want your own personal equipment or if you want something new.
In the bar and lounge area, there are dozens of tables to sit at as well as seats at the bar. In this area, they often have poker tournaments. You can play keno here and they have a beer garden. The beer garden is like a large porch deck. It is not enclosed so in the winter time it’s cold out there. The food and drink prices are reasonable. The staff and service have always been up to par for me when I come in. Madsen’s has two restroom locations, one in the bar and lounge section and the others are in the common area by the front doors. All around, you can bring your family here to eat, unwind and have a great time. They are open Monday through Thursday from 11:00 am until 1:00 am, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 am until 2:00 am and Sundays from 11:00 am until midnight.
